Queens Rooftop Bar Review: Auckland's Stylish New Opening

Queens Rooftop Bar Review

Auckland's skyline just received an upgrade with the arrival of Queens, the city's newest rooftop bar, located inside the recently opened Intercontinental Auckland hotel. Sitting on the 21st floor of the Commercial Bay building, adjacent to the downtown ferry terminal, Queens is a welcome addition to the CBD’s thriving dining scene.

The journey to Queens begins with a sense of intrigue. Tucked away in the back of a discreet wine shop, guests are ushered into an elevator that ascends 21 floors above the city streets. As the doors glide open, a breathtaking panorama unfolds, showcasing expansive views of the Auckland harbor. On one end, the iconic Harbour Bridge, at the other, the Coromandel can be seen in the distance. It's a view that could easily rival the best in the city.

Stepping into Queens is akin to entering an urban oasis. The interiors are contemporary and considered, with warm wooden accents, striking red checkered floors, complemented by red marble bar tables. Every corner of the space is meticulously designed to maximize the stunning views, ensuring that guests can bask in the beauty of Auckland from every vantage point.

The all day menu boasts an enticing array of options, from a raw bar showcasing the freshest seafood to indulgent snacks, skewers, and hearty main dishes. Highlights include the seafood tower, and pork belly sando, although the slow-cooked leeks steal the spotlight with their decadent texture and bold flavors.

We opted for the seafood tower, which was a true showstopper, commanding attention with its towering display of fresh local shellfish. At $195 for two people, it included succulent jumbo prawns, zesty bloody mary oyster shooters, pickles, cloudy bay clams, grilled mussels with coconut and chili butter, and a ceviche style raw tuna dish.

And last, but not least we tried the perfectly charred chicken yakitori skewers, infused with smoky goodness, subtle spices of shishito peppers and a sweet, sticky yakitori glaze.
