Malliouhana Resort Review: Timeless Seaside Style
When it opened over 30 years ago, Malliouhana Resort put Anguilla on the map as the ultimate romantic getaway. This oceanfront hotel continues to set the standard for modern-day island glamor.
Perched above two secluded coves, the property’s garden’s descend into pristine white sands and sparkling waters of the renowned Meads Bay.
We first visited Malliouhana for our honeymoon in 2019, in this article we head back to see whether the hotel is still just as captivating as it was in its heyday.
Malliouhana Resort Review
As you step into the open-air lobby of Malliouhana Resort, the breathtaking Caribbean coastline unfolds before you. Antique diving bells stand as silent sentinels, welcoming you to this coastal paradise. The expansive turquoise walls frame a vibrant living room adorned with Haitian artworks and mirrored mosaic tiling.
Leon Roydon, the previous owner, generously donated his extensive private art collection to the property. The result? A Caribbean-inspired aesthetic that infuses every corner with character.
Rooms
The guest rooms at Malliouhana are full of Caribbean color. Sorbet yellows and robin’s-egg blues create a soothing backdrop. White lacquer four-poster beds, exquisite mural panels by the talented Haitian artist Jasmin Joseph, Venetian glass lamps, and sea-green marble bathroom vanities. This unique combination of elements creates a look that is eclectic yet impeccably curated.
Amenities
Guests can enjoy the expansive pool deck, home to Bar Soleil, the chic cocktail bar serving up tasty rum concoctions throughout the day. This elevated al fresco setting offers guests a picturesque spot to watch the sunset over Meads Bay, while celebrities and oligarchs roll by on super yachts.
Beside the stylish Bar Soleil, black and white outdoor seating leads you over to the twin heated infinity pools. Malliouhana’s spacious pool is far from the crowded all-inclusives that the Caribbean has become synonymous for, instead days by the pool are usually spent surrounded by more loungers than people. The soothing sound of pool’s overflow gently cascading into the one below, as the waves crash against the cliffs.
Fitness Center and Spa
For guests that like to maintain their wellness routine on vacation, sunrise yoga can be done on the pool deck throughout the week. Or spend your mornings in the expansive onsite fitness center and spa, which has been renovated since our original stay. Here they offer a range of daily fitness classes, including kickboxing, a pilates style class, and full body workout.
You can also keep active outdoors with complimentary tennis, pickleball and paddle boarding. Bicycles are provided to guests throughout the duration of their stay, which makes exploring the manicured gardens of the grounds an absolute delight.
Beach Club
The hotel’s beach club, located on Meads Bay, captures the laidback island vibe of Anguilla. Lounge below brightly colored umbrellas, soak up the sun, and sip cocktails from Leon’s.
We reveled in the ambience of this area. Here you can easily whittle away the day playing in the waves, and entertaining yourself with one of the many beach games available.
Leon’s restaurant goes beyond serving delicious food; delivering a classic barefoot luxury setting, that perfectly captures the essence of a Caribbean vacation.
