The Tulum Beach area hosts an array of high-end restaurants that will gladly cater to Gluten Free diners from Japanese - Acai bowls you will be able to find many great options. Celiac diners should always let their waiters know that they have allergies from the outset, as often the amuse bouche and breads will be pre-prepared and come out onto the table as soon as drinks have been ordered. The top locations we recommend for Gluten Free dining in the Tulum beach area are:

  1. Tora Japanese Restaurant - The waiters here are top notch and provide a detailed run down on what dishes are gluten free. In a group setting they regularly communicate which dishes will contain gluten, and can offer alternative sauces or sauce on the side for GF diners. Gluten Free diners will find a wide array of options available throughout each section of the menu.

    Must-Try: Japanese A5 Waygu and Lobster Tail


  2. Ziggy’s Beach Club - Ziggy’s Beach club has a super relaxed atmosphere, with high quality service. Waiters are well-versed in which dishes can be altered to be allergy free. The menu also clearly lists GF options in case you forget. Here you can indulge in casual mexican classic while sipping tequila and watching the waves roll in.

    Must-Try: Cauliflower Tacos


  3. Mi Amor - The team at Mi Amor will go out of their way to make something that suits your dietary needs. They also offer a range of a la carte items that are gluten free across breakfast, lunch and dinner. While their menu is small, each of the dishes they do are masterfully created with a focus on fresh and flavorful dishes.

    Must-Try: Oyster bar and Ceviche


  4. Amazonica - Amazonica is a gourmet Brazilian BBQ in a spectacular setting with dances, drums and a fire show. The set menu offers a range of fine meats with light seasoning which makes it ideal for people with food allergies. Let the team know that your waiter know you are gluten free when you sit down and you’ll have a wealth of options to choose from.

    Must Try: Alaskan Crab and Mayan Octopus

Downtown Tulum
  1. Pizza Papi - Pizza lovers will rejoice in finding a delicious gluten free menu at Papi’s. This was the lightest, crispiest, most delicious gluten free base we have ever tried. Can someone at Papi’s please let us in on the secret? It’s so god damn good it’s dangerous. Watch out for your waistlines because they do delivery too. Big night out in Tulum Dowtown? Head to Pizza Papi post hangover and soothe your blistering headache with their organic wines.

    Must Try: Gf margherita

  2. Onyx - This hidden gem has the best ceviche in town and deliciously fiery tacos. Enjoy street watching from this little spot just off the main road in downtown Tulum. You’ll find yourself sipping the night away over smokey mezcals and engaging in great conversation with the staff.

    Must Try: local Shrimp and fish ceviche

  3. La Brasa - Another great spot for soaking up the atmosphere of the bustling Tulum downtown area is La Brasa. A wine bar and grill with a focus on slow cooking in wood-fire ovens, the staff will adjust dishes for you to make them gluten free with no complaint. We loved the succulent sweetbreads and smokey char grilled octopus.

    Must Try: Slow cooked brisket tacos

  4. Burrito Amor - Burrito Amor is a mainstay at the end of downtown. Famous for its burritos and bowls, this casual street eat outpost can do any of the options on the menu gluten free. Their gf burrito wrap made from coconut flour is famous throughout Tulum with returning regulars making this place a bustling hotspot.

Aldea Zama
  1. Norita - You’ll find Norita at the back of the Art Hotel in Aldea Zama. This poolside haven offers breakfast, lunch and dinner but we come for the healthy, fresh brunch bowls and strong espressos. You can’t go past the poached and crispy bowl is packed full of prosciutto, local Yucatan herbs and lashings of red salsa over eggs. We are getting hungry just thinking about it. If your not much of a breakfast person, try Norita’s sushi nights on Monday, where you can dine by the candlelit pool listening to live saxophone and indulging in fresh sashimi.

    Must Try: Poached and Crispy

  2. Fitalicious - Ok so the name is off-putting, we agree, but this is one of the best healthy brunch spots in all of Tulum. For those of you who want wholesome ingredients but don’t want to compromise on flavor. This is your spot. Fitalicious has smoothie bowls, and healthy alternatives for comfort foods like nachos, tacos, and burgers, even low calorie cocktails.

    Must Try: They do a killer Chilaquiles, make sure you try their hot sauce!

  3. Matcha Mama - There’s a Matcha Mama in every suburb of Tulum now, as there should be. Matcha Mama is the original instafamous smoothie bowl spot in Tulum. Picture super lean Russian influencers sitting in a swing in front of a white shack covered in colorful signage while holding a smoothie. Trust me you would have seen it, that’s Matcha Mama and they are famous for good reason. Their smoothie’s are delicious and everything on the menu is gluten free.

    Must Try: Matcha Colada

  4. Safari - Safari is an uber-chic eatery at the end of Aldea Zama near Itzamna. Chef Luis Aguilar mixes his own flair with locally influenced food, many of which are topped with the delectable flavors of his Salsa Madre sauce range. Most of the taco’s available are gluten free as well as many of the breakfast options. The eatery also has an interesting mix of mezcal cocktails.

    Must Try: Shrimp Tacos and Huevos a la Mexicana

La Veleta 
  1. Sabio - Sabio is a contemporary Mexican restaurant set amongst the jungle. The chef is truly talented creating the most amazing dishes with local ingredients. While a lot of the menu items are not gluten free, the ones that are shine. Kampachi Tiradito, Veracruzana Yuca and the Short Rib Esquite are all mouthwateringly delicious. The presentation is stunning, and you’ll find even simple dishes like guacamole have been delivered artfully. The team here is friendly and accomodating and won’t batter an eyelid at special dietary requests.

    Must Try: Kampachi Tiradito

  2. Malachete Food Truck- There are about 5 good taco trucks along Calle Sur 7, each with their own unique spin on the Mexican classic. Malachete makes their tacos fresh, by hand as you order. Their salsa char-grilled and painstakingly mixed by mortar and pestle as they open. A family run truck that takes great pride in making good tacos, and they are very good. Service is friendly and the tacos are all made with fresh corn masa making them gluten free, just avoid the chorizo and marinated arracherra option as these are not gf.

    Must Try: Chicken taco

  3. Cotti - A smoothie bowl option for those in the La Veleta area is Cotti. Cotti is also a nice spot to pick up a traditional Cacao to takeaway.

  4. Gypsea Market - Gypsea market is a local organic grocer in La Veleta that offers a range of great gluten free ingredients if you want to cook at home when in Tulum. There are also plenty of grab and go gluten free and vegan meals in the fridge and a range of fresh produce. They have a cafe on the side of the building that has a range of gluten free options too.

    Must Try: Pick up their freshly baked gluten free bread
